Former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh has told talkSPORT that the England bowling attack is too reliant on James Anderson.

The former all-rounder also claimed that he's been unimpressed with Steve Finn and his start in Test match cricket.

He said: "I think there's a lack of depth in the bowling for England, a lot's going to hinge on [James] Anderson and [Stuart] Broad. I've had a look at Finn and he doesn't overly impress me."

Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports breakfast show, the former New South Wales captain also said Andrew Strauss' men look short of a genuine all-rounder and might struggle without Ashes talisman Andrew Flintoff.

He went on to say: "The thing that worries me a bit about the England side is the lack of balance. I see none of the top six batsmen being able to bowl at all. When you get a flat wicket in Australia and it's a hot day and you've only got 4 bowlers, you're going to be in trouble.

"You need one of your batsmen to be a pretty good bowler I think and that's where there's a bit of a missing link, that all-rounder, that Flintoff, he's not there and there's no one who can bowl at all.

"I think it's going to be a very competitive series, I think Australia deserve to be slight favourites given the home ground advantage but I don't think there's probably as much between the two sides as the betting says. It's going to be competitive and that's what we all want to see."
